So, no matter how many times I saw this scene, it was clear that that chicken had to have been left to die on the cliff after they threw its cage down. Knowing Hertzog's distaste for chickens makes it even more likely that he just left it there to starve and dehydrate. An a-hole move if you ask me. My husband says it's a "robot/animatronic chicken." ....

The horse didn`t do too well either did it!Just chucked in the river and left to flounder around.
I imagine getting thrown in the river might actually have been prefererable to being on the raft. That horse was constantly slipping and falling down... Also, there was that poor monkey Kinski grabbed and then just threw away. Not the kindest treatment of animals, but at least it made for great cinema!
shareKinski likely didn't throw the monkey into the water - you can tell be the direction he throws it. And the sound of the monkey plunging into water was foley since no direct sound was used.
