I was surprised when the show started referring to Erin as the "pretty one".

I always felt Mary-Ellen was better looking.

Am I in the majority or the minority in that sense?

I'm with Erin as she seemed a little more feminine than Mary-Ellen. Not that ME was unattractive, she just appeared kind of, I dunno...mannish.

Erin was prettier. Mary Ellen was a tomboy and strong willed.

Mary Ellen had smarts and love how she didn't take life lying down. "I'll be an old lady before I see the ocean." She also knew she didn't want to be married off and do cleaning and cooking.

When I was a kid a lot of people thought Mary Ellen was the hot one. Maybe it was because Judy Norton posed nude in Playboy magazine. I preferred Erin.
