They used to show Grandpa imbibing in The Recipe, but I can't recall how often they showed John drinking anything.

Wasn't there one time when Olivia followed John to a bar, and he was drinking a beer and she had a pop?

Yes, that was a later season episode where John quits his job in town after he figures out he is not cut out to work for somebody else or have a boss.

He drinks but never to excess.
