Dumbest episode

I loved watching the show but it did have a few silly episodes like Lamont allowing Grady's freeloading cousin to lay around faking about a back problem instead of just kicking her out but there was an episode that I found the dumbest to the one where Lamont was doing a play and was at her home to rehearse.

That's OK but Fred being there made no sense and then he asks to see the television (which he has one at his house). He walks in to the bedroom where the girl's parents are sleeping and are freaked out as would anyone. Later in the living room the parents Fred Lamont and their daugheter

The daughter's comment, "Mr. Sandford is offended" was the dumbest comments I ever heard when her father mentions a strange man coming into their bedroom.

Again, Fred is trespassing so in what reality, does he have a right to be offended? Of course the couple were upset, as would anyone at some "strange" man walking into their bedroom.

And their house had no smell

reply

The episode with Lamont and the rich white actress rehearsing at her home was pretty good.

reply

The reason that Fred was offended was because he thought the parents were scared of him and assumed him to be a burglar simply because he was black. Fred had a right to be offended and he wasn't trespassing since their daughter has invited him to be there.

"Be nice until it's time to NOT be nice."

reply

He had no business coming into their bedroom. Of course they would be scared since they never seen this person before.

reply

You seem to take personal offence to that part like he came into YOUR bedroom.
You do know that it's fiction, a comedy, happened long ago, and that his character had been told that they weren't even there right? Why do you take this comedic situation so seriously? Were you traumatized by a similar incident or something?

"Be nice until it's time to NOT be nice."

In that episode, Fred was there because she was trying to prove he'd be welcomed at her house, he even suggested that she get her parents to meet him so they'd know he was there, she said they were away for the weekend, and she led him the the direction of their bedroom, telling him where to find the t.v., I'm sure he would not have just went roaming around the house, had he known they were there, it was all a big misunderstanding, and it was funny, the parents had every right to be shocked that someone they've never seen before was in their bedroom, but Fred was offended because instead of asking who he was, or what was he doing there, they assumed he was a burglar because he was black, which the father admitted to, he also didn't deny his daughter's friends sometimes mistakenly ended up in there bedroom, and he didn't react the same way

reply

Someone comes into your bedroom, you are not going to calmly ask them why they are in their bedroom. Of course one is going to be scared and upset. If he wanted to watch TV, he could go home.

reply

I didn't say calmly, of course you're gonna be upset if you wake up and see a stranger standing there, it's actually happened to me before, but he admitted that it's happened with other people, and his reaction wasn't the same

reply

I like the way you switched subjects and got defensive when they showed that your point made no sense.

This thread is the funniest dissertation of a fictional situation comedy I've ever seen. You guys actually spent time explaining that episode like it was a real social experiment. I have never laughed so hard. I didn't laugh that hard watching the episode!! I really needed that laugh, seriously. Thanks! I am a very big fan of the show,, I quote lines with my brother all the time. But I've never examined that episode to this level of detail. I thought it was funny, not one of my all time favorites but funny still. "They steal in Beverly Hills!"

reply

I thought the 3-part "Hawaiian Connection" episodes were the dumbest.

reply

A real low point in the series. It wasn't funny and was predictable. Other dumb episode is the one where he takes an elephant as collateral. And the one where his niece visits.

reply

I agree, this is the only episode I recall not like liking that much.

Fred didn't "ask" for the TV. Marilyn offered it to him. And the reason he was in her parents bedroom was because she told him they were away. Remember, she told Fred that she wanted him to come back when they were. The whole reason for Fred being there was for her to "prove" (lol) that they could rehearse at her home also.
