Come on CBS, time for a reboot!
As long as Jane Lynch can play Maude and I can hear her say "God will get you for that Walter!"
Make it happen CBS!

It's the perfect political climate for this, for certain.
50 Is The New Cutoff Age.
I was thinking Bea Arthur was too iconic, but I can see Jane Lynch holding it down. And I've noticed lately how miscast William Macy was, so I'd like to see a more suitable Walter.
shareThat would just be MORE rebooted crap that I would NEVER watch...
This WOULD NOT WORK. A show who's cast is entirely comprised of MIDDLE AGED PEOPLE . Never happen.,
"In every dimension , there's another YOU!"
That's one major reason it's needed.
50 Is The New Cutoff Age.
The original episodes hold up as good as they did the day they were made, no need for a remake.
shareWell, Norman Lear has given his blessings on reboots for One Day At A Time (Airing on Netflix this month) with All in the Family and Good Times coming soon as limited series, so I say why not Maude too? "And then there's Maude!"
Again just as long as they cast Jane Lynch as Maude!
She's the only one who can pull it off! Producers and Networks take note!!
A rich housewife yelling about the state of politics would not work today.
First economics are MUCH different than they were in early 1970's. Maude in this exact same character would currently represent a VERY small sliver of people--much smaller than the character from the original show. Being a housewife was much more a cultural reality for my grandmother and (even if they did not look forward to it) my mother more than my generation.
I have to work to pay bills--as do many of my friends. And even now it's difficult.
Any network trying to resell this would rapidly lose money bc so many more women have to work.
Nothing to do with the age of the cast--and much more to do with the basic premise. Things are much more expensive now and Maude would have to work outside the home in order for her own family to eat/make ends meet.
You can't get the character of 'Maude' if being a full time housewife is not an economic reality for many more women.
Secondly, the original show was funny bc she was mouthing off about the state of politics precisely while being able to easily afford staying at home--and not having to work or actually understand at all first hand what working people in the 'modern world' actually went through including her own maid. That was intended to be part of the comedy.
This was before Reaganomics removed the economic system which made it possible for her to comfortably stay at home one one person's salary WITH a maid. Like Archie she liked to talk without fully understanding what she was talking about
The closest modern counter part was "Murphy Brown" (Loud mouthed feminist IS working for a living as a professional journalist in DC) WITH a repair person. Murphy HAD also spent time in rehab, and had to work to re-establish her job, and later had cancer.
She WAS loud because she STILL understood the world WAS not easy. But the networks botched THAT reboot. They pretended that she needed to work full time after THAT retiring??
I really hate to see what they'd do with Maude.
