Flute Making

I haven't made one yet, but I am going to make the attempt. I "picked" some bamboo and am drying it now. However I am afraid that the stuff I chose has too thick of a wall to it, and therefore not enough internal diameter. Looks like you want a thin-walled bamboo for the best sound. I am considering trying to bore this out with a drill, but I bet it isn't the same.

There are places on the internet where you can get bamboo more suitable for this purpose if you are willing to pay a few bucks.

I know that the flute used in the series was made by Carradine, using bamboo he picked from the studio backlot. He used a hot poker to burn through the segments and to make the holes in the flute, which he still owns to this day.

I would like to make a flute-staff, like the one he used in "Circle of Iron." ...also known as "the Silent Flute." Fans of Carradine that haven't seen this film are missing out.

I've done it, but be careful - there are mathematics involved related to the size, shape, and placement of the holes relative to each other and relative to the internal diameter of the "pipe".
