how would it have been with Bruce Lee

Would this show have been even better then it was if Bruce Lee, one of the greatest martial artists, had been in it I think it would maybe

reply

I think it would have been very different, that's not to say better or worse, but it would have been different.

I wonder of Bruce would have been silent like Carradine is when doing the moves, from what we have seen of Bruce he does sound like a cat-fight and if he had done those sounds in this role I think it would have changed the whole apearance of the show.

i love both brude and david, but doesn't seem bruce would be suited for this kind of role, more story oriented than action driven. okay, on the front page here bruce's wife is qouted with the oft-heard story of how this show was bruce's idea, so why he was never given any title credits at least as creator? shouldn't she fight for royalties for bruce's estate? if he was overlooked for the part because of his race seems a little ironic as this was a show preaching against racism. heard another story that his command of the english language was not sufficant. another story refutes that bruce had anything to do with the origns of the show. anyone have the REAL story?

its a known fact that the shows concept was concieved by bruce lee but the studio felt that American Audiences were not ready for an Asian star. I for one think that the show would have been much better if Bruce took the lead. Bruce was a real philosopher, if you watch the original fight scenes he filmed for Game of Death you will see a poetic side of bruce that never really made it in any other film. Bruce would have made this show 1000 times better.

I honestly believe this show would of been alot better if Bruce Lee was the star because Bruce was a better martial artist than David Carradine. David Carradine knows nothing about Kung Fu.

reply

Bruce Lee had nothing to do with even the most basic concepts in creating this series and anyone who actually thinks so simply because thats how it was presented in the movie about Bruce Lee's life is an idiot. Bruce did in fact read for the part of Caine but the producers felt he was to difficult to understand and passed on him. Thats as close to being involved as Bruce ever got.

reply

You're not the only person who believes this. I have been told by some martial artists that David Carradine didn't practice Kung Fu, he "acted" it. If Bruce Lee had been the star, this show would have a gazillion more fans!

reply

Ok dude don't call people dumb because your biggest argument is that bruce was "fully 100% chinese", which he wasn't.

Yeah people need to read Bruce Lee's biography. Fighting spirit is a good one, check it out and don't listen to everything you hear in these movies of his life. He had an idea for a TV series, it wasn't kung fu. As someone said earlier, all he did for Kung Fu was read some lines.

But to answer the question of this topic. It would have been an amazing series with Bruce but it just wouldn't be the same. Carradine was born to play Caine, he did it beautifully.

Bruce was an awesome martial artist. but unlike his modern contemporary Jet Li his pronunciation of the English language wasn't as clear as he probably would have liked that is why he was passed up for the part.Certainly not because of his martial arts skill.

It would've been much better. Lee was an actual martial artist/philosopher. Carridine was just acting.

By any means necessary.

In my opinion the show would have been awful with Bruce Lee, just awful.

Please don't get me wrong, I was and am a Bruce Lee fan, but he had a boastful, arrogant manner about him in his fighting that was the exact opposite of what this character called for.

The producer has said that when he interviewed Bruce for the part, Mr. Lee took his nunchucks out and went nuts with them, inches from the producer's face, and that all of this turned him off completely. Carradine did a jump kick and put his footprint above the doorway, and smiled. The choice was obvious.

This show was not really about fighting skills at all, or at least only marginally (I am bracing myself and preparing to be called an idiot for saying this). I think this show was about taoist and buddhist principles in action, and the fighting was a side issue. Carradine has said that many episodes were written without fights in them, but they were added in to make it meet the formula (two fights, both of a prescribed length in each episode).

I doubt that the show would have lasted beyond the first season with Bruce Lee, if it had been picked up at all.

You sound like you don't know what Bruce was about at all.

Bruce was philosophical when he wanted or needed to be(he MAJORED in philosophy!), but also he was all business when it's 'gametime', if you get what i mean.

Here. Educate yourself.

Then come back and tell me that the show still would have been awful with Bruce as the lead actor and him having total control over his character..

But you are probably right about the show not lasting more than a season. The producers certainly thought so too, and as Bruce explains in the interview, there were assuredly certain racial and cultural prejudices that were prevalent at the time they were casting for the show, and even now.. :(

reply

They'd need to crank up the slow motion even further up if Bruce Lee did it. :)
