Four-part series conclusion

The four-part episode in which Caine finally finds his brother Danny (Tim McIntire) and nephew (one of the Barrymores) was clearly intended to end the series. The very last moment is Caine bowing and saying good-bye, while commenting on the end of his journey. Yet these were not the last episodes broadcast. Does anyone know why? Were they the last episodes filmed?

The last episode actually filmed was Ambush which featured the third apearance by John Carradine as Serinity Johnson. Ambush and the Last Raid were aired after the four part arc of Caine finally finding his brother as a way of indicating to the audiance that the series may return for another season, although Carradine choose not to come back and do another year.

Thanks for the information. It seemed odd.

Networks do all sorts of absurd things. On KUNG FU: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, they aired 2 episodes AFTER what was clearly the series finale (where Carridine leaves the city in his son's hands). A decade earlier, WKRP had the same thing happen-- 2 episodes near the end of the run got pre-empted originally, and wound up being run AFTER the final episode (during the rerun season).

And then of course you have the pilot for STAR TREK, which had somewhat different sets, costumes, props, yet was run 3RD, after 2 other stories.

KF:TLC was plagued by this sort of this throughout its run, actually. Several times 2 episodes would run back-to-back which were CLEARLY run in reverse order. One instance I recall were 2 related episodes, one of which itroduced a new villain, the other had him return... they aired the return episode, then, a week later, his introductory story! (Idiots...)

Probably a scheduling snafu.
