The "original" Kung Fu TV series is a "timeless" classic. IMDB's "User comments" do provide an accurate overview of it.

It's timeless in that it is NOT about martial arts -- in fact, Shaolin priest Caine will willingly suffer insult and degradation, and will fight only to defend other persons or unless his personal safety demands it. Instead, it provides insight on how one applies the teachings and philosophy of Taoism to the rough-and-tumble realities of the real world.
The show was also ahead of its time in not holding back in the cruelities of racism faced by those of Asian descent in the 19th century.
In fact, a few episodes manage to end without a climactic fight scene, reinforcing the point that there's always a better solution than violence. "The Ancient Warrior" is my favorite example.
