Being made into a movie to be released in 2011!

And just a word of warning to the film makers! You better not turn this into some stupid Will Farrell comedy with a bunch of SNL writers writing it! We don't need another bastardization of a beloved tv classic!

I'm AGAINST remakes.

Has there ever been a remake that lived up to the original film?? HELL NO!!!

There have been talks of remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Who's Tommy and The Highlander.

Now Kung Fu???

NO! JUST....NO!!!!!

What's happening to Hollywood??

Have the totally run out of original ideas and creativity??

NO!!! They're just getting LAZY!!!

STOP THE REMAKES!!!

1986's The Fly is far better than the original film

The remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers staring Donald Sutherland is far better than the original film.

Those are the only two exceptions I can think about.

As far as TV series being turned into respectable films those are few and far between as well.

Star Trek made a good transition from Television to the big screen.

The Batman movies are far better than the 60's Batman TV series.

I can't think of anymore. Usually movies based on a TV series are forgettable comedies, so the odds are definitely stacked against a good Kung Fu movie being produced.

It should be written and directed by someone who is actually a big fan of the series.

there are COUNTLESS remakes that are superior to their original counterparts. It's just that people hold the classics in such high regard that when they are bastardized it stands out so much more, especially because of the nostalgia factor of the originals. However, it's best to just not worry about this kind of thing. The original will always be the original - I don't stop watching those movies I love that have been remade just because there's a newer version. Nor do I give a **** if the remake sucks because it affects me in no way whatsoever.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings was better than the 1970's version. But I agree that Kung Fu should not be re-made.

"The Dark Knight" was utter garbage. Batman begins was better and I still find the original Batman TV show good campy fun.

Agree 100% on all counts.

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved?

One possible good coming from a remake, an actual martial artist who can do the styles correctly can be cast. I like Carradine but the fights on the show were hardly kung fu.

His perverted death put a stop to any ideas about him making a joke appearance!

More than most, this show was a product of its time. The pacifism and heavy concentration of Eastern philosophy is pure early '70s. So even if a producer of today "got it" (not bloody likely!), no modern producer would give the audience credit for getting it, so they wouldn't even attempt to capture the original spirit of the show. That would just leave a generic Chinese martial artist in a generic Old West setting. (Hmm . . . wait a minute . . . we may be on to something after all . . . Hey! How about we team up Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson?)

So... What became of the remake of "Kung Fu"? Was it ever made? I don't remember seeing anything about it.

reply

I haven't heard anything about it, so it probably got cancelled.

Oh well, no news is good news!

Yeah, maybe you are right in that it probably was nixed. However, I am surprised that this movie was supposed to made and released back in 2011, but here we are in 2013 and nobody here in this forum (that I know of) has asked what happened to the movie ... until I finally asked?
