Late with this reply....oh well.
Please excuse me for repeating some of the questionable language...prejudice was a major theme of the series. And it was common for Caine to prove the bigots wrong through his actions...also a major theme of the series.
The episode in question is Blood Brother, the 3rd episode of the 1st season. It guest stars Robert Urich, Clu Gulager, and the great John Anderson. It's the story of one of Caine's old friends from the temple, who Caine defeated in a critical contest during the later years of their Shaolin training. His friend left the temple after the contest, and Caine never saw him again. He discovers his friend was living in the US, but has gone missing just as Caine arrives.
The character you're asking about was played by Scott Hylands, a *very* prolific character actor. In the episode he played one of the local gang of toughs, and they inevitably tangle with Caine.
Hylands' character (Randy) sarcastically referred to Caine as "John" during their initial encounter.
Paraphrased, of course:
"Hey *John*..."
"My name is not John, I am Caine."
"Sure thing, *John*..."
Caine mops the floor with the lot of them.
In the trial scene, Randy confirms his a sociopathic tendencies by declaring "Why all this nonsense about killin' a Chinaman? *Sure* I did it! I *enjoyed* it! It ain't like I was killin' a man!" (another paraphrase)
Then he challenges Caine *again*..."You think I can't take him? With my little finger!"
Funny, he has a short memory....Caine made short work of the whole gang simultaneously earlier in the ep.
Once again, please excuse me if anyone is offended. This post was an answer to a question.
