El Topo influence

I was watching a documentary called "Jodorowsky's Dune" in which Alejandro Jodorowsky stated that "Kung Fu" (1972) was influenced by "El Topo" (1970). That is news to me and I do not see anything connecting the two in IMDB or Wikipedia. Was Jodorowsky just talking out of too much marijuana use or was there anything to back that claim?

It was probably the whole western set in a desert thing. Beyond that I don't see too much connecting the two. I've only seen the Topo trailer.

If you see the film you'll see more of a connection.

'El Topo' if very influenced by Dharmic philosophy and a main character becomes a sort of monk and helps people.
