Newhart's Second Show Gets a DVD release...

...yet we're still waiting for the remaining two seasons of his '70s show. How retarded is that to start releasing his second show before completing the first???

I agree, Dave, that it's frustrating to see NEWHART come out and nary a word about Seasons 5 and 6 of the definitive Bob Newhart series. I mean, I wouldn't mind them releasing BOTH series, even at the same time, just as long as they release BOTH!

The same maddening thing is happening with ALL IN THE FAMILY. Six seasons out, no word on the seventh and it's been a year now, yet ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE gets a release. C'mon, already.

I despise the studios abandoning series (e,g., MARY TYLER MOORE; MAUDE; HAZEL; HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL, et al.). If you put one season out, commit to going all the way with it; create a firm schedule (one every three or six months to keep momentum) and stick with it.

Maybe the sad passing in the past year of Tom Poston and now his wife Suzanne Pleshette will spark interest in releasing those last two seasons.

PS: I never cared for NEWHART, but I did enjoy Bob's third series, BOB (at least the first season before Betty White soured it). I wouldn't mind seeing that show get a release in due course.

I disagree. Despite the last episode being revealed to be a dream sequence of Bob Hartly, I don't consider Newhart to be a follow-up to The Bob Newhart Show. They are stand-alone series. I like Newhart better, and feel that The Bob Newhart Show gets treated much better. The Bob Newhart Show seems to have reruns in syndication more often, the show was available on DVD longer, Bob Newhart mentions this show more in his autobiography, I think there have been more Bob Newhart Show video releases than Newhart ones, and I think that most Bob Newhart documentaries focus on The Bob Newhart Show than Newhart. And Newhart was on for more seasons (though both shows ended because Bob Newhart wanted them to end, so I guess ratings had nothing to do with it).

I would also like for Bob Newhart's other shows to be released on DVD.
