Does anyone know why Mr. Tebbs only lasted one season? His predecessor disappeared because the actor playing him died. The actor playing Mr. Tebbs lived a few years after he disappeared from the show. Did he not fit in with the rest of the cast, or did he just get tired of the show?
shareFrom what I’ve read, the actor was a spokesman for Mr. Kipling’s Cakes (a popular British brand, somewhat equivalent to Hostess in the US), and the company was not pleased about his appearance on the show—I’m not certain if it was because of his character, or merely the show itself. At any rate, they either made it worth his time to leave the show, or possibly threatened to terminate him as a spokesman. Either way, he left the series and went back to his Mr. Kipling’s duties after one season.
