Mr Humphries & Mrs Slocombe

I think most fans of the show would agree with me that, throughout the entire series, Mrs Slocombe and, to a greater extent Mr Humphries, held the show together.

I wonder if it would have lasted as long as it did, if John Inman had left the show or if Molly Sugden had.

Loved the employee meeting scene where Mr.Granger is trying to eat a sweet roll and keeps trying bun after bun because he is having trouble getting his teeth (or gums) around them, then passes the platter, to which Mr. Humphries insists he only wants melon balls since he isn't about to try a roll after Mr. Granger has "had his chops round them all."

The show was a vehicle for Trevor Bannister actually. But Mr. Humphrey's actually broke out. I firmly believe that the who floor cast was needed. I did prefer Mr. Harmon over Mr. Mash. But otherwise this was an ensemble cast if ever I saw one. For myself and family once Trevor Bannister left it was harder to watch. And Granger was missed sorely as well. For me this was like how "Friends" was done where no one deserved more pay than another and all cast members were important and needed! Watching "Grace and Favour" is enjoyable because you have almost everyone without having replacements that can't get timing with the others right. I hate that it only lasted 2 seasons!!

Oh, I absolutely agree with you about liking Mr. Harmon over Mr. Mash.

For replacements--I never warmed up to Old Mr. Grace, definitely preferred Young Mr. Grace. I prefer Mr. Lucas but thought Mr. Spooner was pretty good as a replacement.

they are the two best characters, and i don't think the show would have gone on being as popular if either of them had left, especially Mr humphries. the other characters are good too, but none are quite as funny as those two.

I agree. Definitely the best! Though the whole ensemble made the show.

reply
