Please spare me all the bilge about vampire circus being an underrated horror classic. Too gory to be appreciated. A film like this does not deserve to be appreciated as an underrated classic when it seizes every opportunity to gross out the audience with as much bloodletting as this one does. Sure it has some good photography and some imaginative photographic moments but the film goes much too far in the horrific vein. After watching this last nite I immediately watch The Vampire Lovers starring Ingrid Pitt and Peter Cushing. NOW THAT'S a classic!

VAMPIRE LOVERS has two on camera decapitations and is otherwise boring when Ingrid Pitt isn't naked.

I agree. "Vampire Lovers" is deadly dull while "Vampire Circus" is great. And it's "too gory"???? What do u expect from a Hammer horror movie?

Lol, to me the question is how come you don't expect blood in a vampire movie?

The absence of love is abject pain.

I agree. This movie is not too gory. This is a serious classic that I just saw the other day for the first time. How could anyone say this is gory compared to the terrible gory stuff they have out today? Anyway, I have to buy this film. Seriously, it is a vampire film masterpiece. Very strange film with a lot of unexpected twists.

I agree with it being a vampire film masterpiece. I'm glad we FINALLY have it uncut here in the US. It only took about 40 YEARS (yes, I'm being sarcastic:))

After decades loving this film, at last I can feel that I am not alone. Wonderful how posts here are admiring this vital, timeless and imaginative vampire fantasy. And director Baker, even if i had high hopes for Vampire Lovers, because the great novel deserves a great adaption onto film, treats the semi nudity scenes with discomfort and it becomes "nondirected" in a stiff way. The sexuality and nudity approach in Vampire Circus, is alive, wild and unashamed but never vulgar! Its just crazy how that child seducing Baron is ugly AND sexy at the same time. Also, the child seduction in the Mirror of Life is really beautiful. This film needs to be hyped by us fans!
