The same nukes were in Alien, right?

When they put the nuke in the tube in one of the domes, and then they lift that hood and press that button to go to arm it, that looks exactly like the same equipment, same sequence that Ripley used to blow up the Nostromo in Alien. Or am I crazy?

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I think some of the look of both Star Wars and especially the Nostromo from Alien found inspiration from this film.

Yes, the scuttling process looked very similar, although I think in Alien they were just devices that deactivated the cooling systems, which produced a reactor overload and eventual detonation.

Yeah, I think in Alien it was a nuclear reactor meltdown that caused the explosion. An explosion caused by a meltdown is much more modest than one from a nuclear bomb. There were some silvery canisters in Alien but I think they were larger.

Incidentally, why was it even necessary for this mission to carry nuclear bombs and use them to destroy the biodome things?

I wondered about that, too. Would have made more sense to the crew to have simply been ordered to jettison the domes. The organisms within would have died pretty quickly from lack of sunlight and care/maintenance...
