Love to see a remake

Hollywood has a bad reputation for me with regard to remakes, so I hesitate to ask for such a thing. I've had nearly a life-long relationship with this film and still watch it every year or so. So many elements in this film are still things that I like to see in film or TV: post-apocalypse, hard SF story done with realism, environmental or animal rights issues, near-future space special effects. I don't know if that's because this movie had such a strong effect on my later preferences, or whether it just included many of the things I was already destined to enjoy in SF movies.

When I was younger, the larger issues are what stuck with me and continue to appeal. The flaws in the film are what make it less than classic. If someone could dust off the script a bit and find a way to make this work better, it would be as good as newer films like Moon or Interstellar. Alas, they'd probably turn it into an action-in-space flick and alienate fans while merely pleasing less discerning filmgoers for a couple of forgettable hours. Nevertheless, nothing would please me more than to see someone give a try at reworking Silent Running for the 21st century.
