I have it from an excellent source that the book about the Domes return is being written. Planned for a screenplay. I know a little about the story, but I am sworn to keep all but a few details under wraps.... I can say that the Dome was inadvertently launched into space on a very large return orbit of several hundred years.... Environment frozen, but DNA intact. No one left on Earth has ever seen a plant... or even remembers the Phenix project...

If it were EXTREMELY LOOSELY related, but a complete stand alone story, I could see it, IF the story itself was really, really interesting. The ONLY connection would be the frozen forest origin - but everything forward would focus on the people of earth reactions, their current brave new world, and I dunno, some rebels fighting off the DNA degeneration caused by lack of plant food, it could get interesting - on it's OWN merits with just the minor connection to SR.
But as a sequel all about the returning forest? Not sure it would be very interesting.
