What Kind Of Motorcycles Are They?
Does anyone know the make, model and year of the motorcycles in this movie?

shareHad a look when it was shown on BBC2 on Sunday, and counted six Triumphs and two BSAs. The latter were both late 60s B25 Starfires (blue tanks). For some reason they had their badges removed. These were Abby and Jane's, though it’s clear that they and presumably the rest of the cast did almost no riding in the film. As lord-jagged says, the Triumphs were mostly a mix of Bonnevilles and Tigers. Can’t promise that I’ve got these right but I think that they were as follows. Tom’s looked like an early 60s Thunderbird. The two with blue and white tanks were an early and a mid to late 60s Bonneville. The orange and white tanked one was either a Bonneville or a Tiger, the red one looked like a 1970 Tiger and the orange tanked one with the high exhaust might have been a TR6 Trophy.
PS if the identifications are correct then other film connections would be: Marlon Brando rode an earlier model Thunderbird in The Wild One and Steve McQueen a Trophy in The Great Escape.
If we remember correctly, they are Triumphs.
Nicky Henson was given the script and it opened with the line "eight Harley Davidson motorbikes roar out of the morning mist" and being a motorcycle enthusiast, he signed up immediately.
He was most disappointed to find out that the production didn't use Harleys, but rescued a bunch of WWII Truimphs from a scrapheap and got them into working order. That was probably the beginning of Henson's intense dislike of the movie.
Cheers!
