As much as I agree with you, he's not the first to do that. Sylvester Stallone too did his directional debut with the drama Paradise Alley and casted himself as the lead. Kevin Coastner who was seen more of a strong and attractive guy made his directional debut with the absolute masterpiece Dances with the Wolves. I'd say that Coastner's debut is way more impressive than Eastwood's... I'm not talking about the rest of his career, of course not. But, if we compare the quality of their first film ever that they directed, Coastner is pretty much the one who impressed me the must. What followed was from awerage to completely awful, but he has a hit as his first movie. Eastwood in another hand, let's say that he didn't stop after one movie to do any efforts and well thanks to this he has an impressive body of work. Stallone too did an amazing job with Paradise Alley and I'd even say that Rocky II was well done as well. Unfortunetely, neither of them followed Clint's path!
