Hey, I totally agree it should finally be released onto dvd for North America. But in your case, this title is available in the NTSC format on vhs. I bought it on eBay, it works quite well.

I have to believe it will be available soon on DVD, as it recently played on cable (IFC, I think). The showing on cable was a high quality, letterbox transfer (I dubbed to DVD for my collection). Any existing transfers to broadcast video formats would have been either edited for content and/or 4:3 pan and scans.

I've noticed that a number of 'old' films show up on pay cable channels in really high quality transfers are often released to DVD within a few months.

My suspicion is that today's movie channels only show movies that have been telecined to digital format due to the digital nature of broadcasting. They just wouldn't bother with old, edited, analog transfers kicking around from Saturday Afternoon Matinee-type broadcasts.
