Does this film still have an NC-17 rating or is it an 18 by contemporary standards? Does it contain particularly explicit drug taking and sex scenes?

The film never had an NC-17 rating. It was initially rated R but was released to theaters with a PG rating.

Explicit drug taking scenes, yes. It's not pretty, but then it's not supposed to be. Great film.
