The Ending Could've Been a Tad Better (Two Endings)?
I hate the Hollywood cliche' or happy endings, and I thought the idea for the ending was terrific. For some reason, when I saw the movie on Cinemax and caught it at the end, the ending didn't seem as abrupt. Maybe there's a difference between the dvd and tv version. I thought the ending on the Cinemax version (Just seeing the very end of the film) seemed brilliant. But as I just watched the dvd version, I felt the ending was too abrupt.
It's not that the ending was a poor decision in my mind, quite the opposite. There are two kind of endings, really. Endings that spoon feed you, and endings that are ambiguous. This was perfect because this was neither. But let me further explain. The Cinemax one felt for me that the ending was the girl leaning walking with Bobby and then leaning her had on his shoulder, and then a fade out. But the dvd just had them walking away from the prison to a popping scratchy noise and then the credits. Maybe I've lost my mind, maybe there are two endings that are very slightly different. I would have loved to see them comfort each other and then a fade out like I thought I saw on Cinemax. That wouldn't be a happy ending, nor would the ending be any different... it would just be different in deliver.
All in all it's a minor complaint in hindsight. Still, it took a sting out of the strong ending for me but when thinking about it more its very picky of me. The meaning behind the ending remains the same, though, I just would've preferred a different delivery.
Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go.
