Saw it when it was on screens in Sydney

I remember watching it at one of the old cinemas at Parramatta, either the Roxy or the Astra. I knew Peter Whittle from a boxing gym I trained at and can still remember him in the fight scene with Jack Thompson. Peter was a former amateur champion and would have had a lot to do with the staging of the fight. If it had been for real he would have killed Jack.

My brother in law was a big John Wayne fan, but said it was the best movie fight he had ever seen.

The film was realistic. Australian pubs in the sixties and seventies were a lot like those shown in the film. Shame that it was Chips Rafferty's last cinema film. He died the year it was released.

Just saw this flick at ScreenSound in Canberra. What can I say - it was definately gritty & realistic. Having grown up in 60's Sydney with parents born in the 20's/30's I can say beyond a doubt that the boozing, Kangaroo shooting types are real. I did love the ending though and wonder if the main character will be doing the same thing for his next school holidays - what a hoot!

The Roxy is still there but not as a cinema.
