Thank you very much! I haven't seen it yet, but have wanted to for quite a while. It looks like a great film. I'll definitely be picking up a copy.

Ezydvd is a freaking ripoff. They sell titles $5-$10 more expensive than places like Big W, K-Mart, etc. Go to Big W. They always have the cheapest prices. Always.

JB hi is about $10 cheaper on the Blu-ray and cheaper on the dvd also. Plus they have it in stock.

I understand that the running time of the re-release is down as 92 minutes only as opposed to the original running time of 114 minutes. Even allowing for DVD speed ups, it would appear to be a cut print (unless the deleted scenes feature accounts for the difference in length). Anybody know if the "restored print" is cut?

reply

I have just received an email from Madman Entertainment in reply to my earlier query. It appears that the information as to the running time on both their website and the DVD cover was incorrect. The actual running time is 104 minutes and is "the editor's and the director's preferred version". So that's alright, then.

reply

I can confirm that the DVD runs 104 minutes.

That 114-minute running time is dubious anyway. David Stratton's book The Last New Wave and The Oxford Companion to Australian Film both cite 109 minutes. The BBFC passed the film uncut in 1971 at 108 minutes 18 seconds (under both the original title and the overseas Outback title). The difference between this and the DVD transfer's running time would be down to PAL speedup.
