Wait, he was 'bonded' for 1000$ as a school teacher?
Could someone explain this?
shareYeah, I remember back in the 1960s and 70s the NSW Department of Education would pay prospective teachers a scholarship to attend university and get their teaching degrees - but then they were bonded to the Department of Education for a certain number of years.
My mother actually did this but got out of it somehow when she found that she wasn't well suited to teaching.
Some US states have something analogous for medical doctors: they'll pay your medical school tuition/fees at a state medical school, but in return you have to work as a primary care physician in an "underserved" district (i.e. backwoods or urban slum) for several years where all of your patients are on Medicaid.
