I highly applaud the choice of date for release of this film. Made me chuckle, though I bet it was totally accidental.

I've looked at the release info on various sites. It's part of a two disc set with House On Skull Mountain on one of the two discs. As far as I know this set includes no extras. It would be nice though if I could find the trailers.

reply

I just got my copy. It is a great transfer. Excellent quality.

Any extras?

I agree, The Reincarnation of Peter Proud has always been one of my favorites. Would love to see it again!

reply

It would have been nice to see a deluxe edition of this film. I have yet to pick it up but I am not thrilled that it is partnered with a grade-B film that I have never heard of. It certainly cheapens this long-awaited release of "The Mephisto Waltz".

very true. I felt the same way when I first heard of this release. I was just so happy to have it finally out on dvd. If The Mephisto Waltz had to be released as a double feature, you would have thought that 20th Century Fox would have come up with a better title to pair it with.

reply

Indeed. Even though it has already been released on DVD, "The Other" would have been a perfect companion piece. Plus, they both offer superb scores by Jerry Goldsmith.

It surely deserves to be on its own yet I am so very grateful that it IS available.
The Reincarnation of Peter Proud and the many named film with Orson Welles and Pamela Franklin, one of the names was NECROMANCER, all should be reissued in deluxe versions as compared to most of what passes for horror today they are masterpieces despite their shortcomings.

Censorship is unhealthy for a society's arts, literature, and life.

reply

Ah, yes. I would love to see a deluxe version of 'The Reincarnation of Peter Proud' on DVD. Another interesting score by Jerry Goldsmith too. I've always liked subtle or implied horror as opposed to alot of what passes for horror today - in-your-face gore and violence.

I don't know who owns the rights to "Peter Proud", but it's high on my wish list. I had a tough time finding a decent VHS copy on e-Bay.

"The House on Skull Mountain", the other film on the DVD with Mephisto Waltz, is really, really bad. Almost bad enough to be camp, but not quite.

I agree that "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" is long overdue for a DVD release. I would love to own a copy! As far as "The House on Skull Mountain" is concerned, I can't get past the awful, campy trailer! Of course, I think the trailer to "Mephisto" is shrill and not very enticing. At least I know that "Mephisto" is a quality film. I still think it deserved a more mature, deluxe release though.

Ah! But the great thing about the release of these two features (together) is that both movies have one great thing in common , Janee Michelle ! Who's parts were cut out of Mephisto Waltz But was then the starring actress of "House on skull mountain" . She by far is way more hot than Barbara Parkins ! Janee Michelle all the way!
