Why in heaven's name is this movie not released on DVD in america!!!!

How can anyone justify that this dvd has not been released in region 1 on dvd. this is just another example of the american movie industry and business being ass backwards. This movie means just as much to people who first watched it when it first came out as America Graffiti does to the people of that generation. Are people afraid it would not sell in america?! This is not the pirate movie! This will sell very well! Now some in america please release it on dvd, region 1 widescreen please!

Sorry! I know how you feel but US of A is about capitalism to the max. When I first immigrated into the States I was surprised that when I tried to shop for records of a particular artist, I could only find the most current 'popular' in the US. And 'popular' is very narrowly defined.

Melody is a great movie but being 'British' and weren't 'big' in the US, most people in the industry don't know this movies and many others are not gonna go thru the trouble of release it onto DVD even tho you and i know that there are many who would buy it.

It's their perception of what would 'sale' and their perception is being skewed by their 'industry' ... or whatever...

What I am to say is there it's not easy for people to do something out of the normal 'mode' of operation like it's hard to steer a big ship in the middle of the ocean even when there's a good reason to

Many software DVD player on a PC could by different Region DVD. So buying a Japanese Copy isn't too bad of an alternative. The movie is old and the transfer or re-mastering wasn't done well so no big loss of resolution when watch on your small computer screen as oppose to 32" TV

It still sucks! Capitalism to the max indeed!

I'm so bummed this isn't on Netflix... I wanted to add it to my list of films to cover at KidsFlix.

Oh, well. I'll keep my eyes open. It sounds GREAT!

(BTW, I posted another potentially confusing post here, thinking I was in the board for Little Manhattan, which is how I was led here... if you don't know Little Manhattan, check it out! Great little film, I'll have a review soon on KidsFlix.)

I shared for a long time the feelings of the OP. In spite of having carefully searched the web for a DVD copy of the film, the only news I got were from an e-mail adressee who asked close to £ 18 for it, and it was Region 2, which meant that in my country (Argentina) I'd be forced to watch it in B&W. (It happened to me before)

Then, miracously, it was launched in a DVD version in my own country!! I bought it last week and I just finished watching it, and coming to the board I found this thread.

The good news are that the transfer is good, the sound is dolby digital 2.0 stereo, 1.33:1 widescreen, running time @ 107 min., and it cost me only AR$ 40, less than £ 7!!

The bad news, the only subtitle option is spanish, which suits me fine.

If anyone in this forum likes the news, the distributor e-mail is:

[email protected]

I don't think there should be any problems with sending them abroad.

Good luck
