Wondering if anyone knows of other similar movies?

I thought this movies was okay, but could have been better. It had a bit of silliness like with the professor and them all getting into a big run around fight at the end, going back to making a bomb three or four times, and multiple kids puffing it up multiple times at school in the movie (yea right).

The best parts of the movie however were the soundtrack and the montages. The director did a really good job with that.

Anyways, any similar movies people can recommend? Especially ones with good song montages and pleasant feeling?

Oh, by the way, Jeremy (yes that's the name of the movie), in my opinion, is one that I'd recommend...it's better than Melody actually.

Replying to my own post, I found a similar feel with "I Start Counting", especially the music/soundtrack, but the movie wasn't that good.

You can try A Little Romance. Two young geniuses about the same age as these kids, also from vastly different backgrounds, fall in love in Paris. It co-starred Laurence Olivier and introduced future Oscar-winner Diane Lane as the young girl. Not as much silliness in that one.

The most similar one I can think of is the Swedish film My Life as a Dog. I've heard that a French film called Le Grand Chemin is also pretty good and along the same lines, but I haven't actually watched it.

Little Manhattan (2005) is very much like an American version of Melody (1971), albeit with a rather different style of humor, and a more realistic though still rather optimistic ending:

I've now seen Le Grand Chemin (Grand Highway) and I'd definitely recommend it. It's not a romantic comedy like Melody, and it has a rural setting rather than an urban school, and is more realistic, but it has the same sincere, authentic feel and, although not a comedy, has some very funny moments.
I wouldn't recommend Submarine - all the characters were obnoxious and the humour fell flat for me.
For completely non-comedic films about childhood romance, in the genre of drama, perhaps tragedy also, I'd strongly recommend Jeux Interdits (Forbidden Games), a superb film about love and death. Another good one is Let the Right One In, in the arthouse horror genre.
