Way too much foreshadowing (major spoilers)

I realize that character development and great acting are more important than a twist ending, but I think its completely idiotic that we were constantly being told Cable was behind everything. It was like "oh so he's probably the bad guy huh? then Cable shows up at the end and it really was him. well that was anti-climactic..."

We can become cops, or criminals. But when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?

To be fair it would have just been cheesey and predictable to do a big reveal at the end. It was a smart move to unmask the killer early on and focus on the character dynamics. By the time you reach the climax, the murder mystery has become virtually negligible within the context of the film; it's not the fairly routine murder mystery elements that have kept this film in the collective imagination for the last four decades.

If you're watching the thriller side of the movie, you're watching the wrong movie.
