Jane Fonda's character`
Do you think there is a negative representation of female prostitutes in movies? Or would you say there realistically or positively represented?

shareIn Klute, Fonda's character is presented with frankness and complexity. Bree comes across as a young woman whose failings drag on her better qualities (as she demonstrates in her meetings with her psychiatrist). Sure, you could say the portrait is basically positive, but only because the villain makes everybody look better by contrast.

If I had to pick a movie prostitute to go with Bree would be my choice.
shareI think so. She's a very layered, intelligent woman who isn't ashamed of her profession.
shareIt's a complex and authentic performance, Jane is truly unforgettable.
Fonda spent a lot of sympathetic time studying higher class call girls of the type of Bree. She was open, non-judgemental and full of questions about what to say, how to act etc.. She picked up a wealth of detail and character traits that made this her best and most nuanced role.
