Whatever happened to Dorothy Tristan (Arlyn Page)?

She had quite a promising start to her career but she vanished afterwards and, in fact, according to imdb she hasn't been in a movie since 1986. Anyone knows what happened? That seems to be the case with other promising 70s American actresses like Kitty Winn, for instance.

It's a tough business. If you don't make it big, fast, you just fade away. Another example is Carrie Snodgress, who was the red-hot star of "Diary of a Mad Housewife" and died in oblivion a few years ago. Another was Didi Conn, who starred in "You Light Up My Life" and wound up doing a one-line bit as a waitress in "Frida".

I believe Carrie Snodgress voluntarily distanced herself from Hollywood when she became Neil Young's couple. Then she devoted herself to her kid but managed to star in "The Fury" by Brian De Palma and "The Pale Rider" (was that the English title?).

Your mentioning Snodgress brought Elizabeth Hartman to mind.

Yes, Hartman's another one. An eventual suicide. This has been going on for decades, back to the 30s. Gwili Andre and Peg Entwistle were two examples. As I said, it's a tough business, and a very cruel town. Let me just mention one more, the saddest of all, Gail Russell.

A bit of trivia about her is she was originally offered the Marsha Mason role in [/i]Blume in Love[/i] but chose to do the movie Scarecrow instead, which practically no one saw.

Maybe her career would have continued upwards if she'd made a different choice.

It seems like she's surfaced for the first time since 1986. She's in a production set for release in 2014. (Check out her page here at IMDb).
