R.I.P. Gordon Willis

Most famous for the Godfather and Woody Allen movies he shot, I always have thought Klute was his crowning achievement -- and one of the most brilliantly shot pictures in the history of cinema. Its stark, shadowy minimalism and intelligence radiating from each frame has scarcely been matched before or since. He was a great artist, perhaps the greatest American cinematographer to my mind.

"Your mental capacity isn't the only problem. You also have the sensibility of a cow on morphine."
