Only upon deeper examination and more viewings did I realize what a superp job Fonda did with her multi-layered performance of Bree. She gives a full-character embodiment of the person, most of the time with very, very subtle touches. An incredible performance which (in my book) would rank among the very best in the history of film!

I don't know about the best, or even *one* of the best. But it *might* be, maybe. And I say this as someone who dislikes her personally, who probably wouldn't shake her hand if I met her. So I think I am comparatively neutral in my judgement.

Yes, Fonda gave a SUPERB performance in "Klute". I wish she did more drama or drama thrillers now. She was also good as the alcoholic in the movie with Jeff Bridges...forgot the name. She's just an excellent actress, and she's good in the HBO show with Jeff Daniels. But, there are just too few parts for women her age. Sad.
shareIt certainly is one of the best female performances in memory. That scene where she begins to cry, listening to the tape recording of the murdered call girl, was so powerful and felt so genuine on Fonda's behalf. You could feel her pain and her fear.

Fonda's Bree Daniels is both powerful and yet pathetic, and as funny as she is infuriating. Incredible performance.
