Whatever Happened to the Writers of This Movie?

That was my first question when I scanned the credits. Honestly, the names of Andy Lewis and David E. Lewis did not register at all, and clicking on their profiles shows that they mostly disappeared after this movie (each only had one more writing credit after Klute, and nothing after 1974).

This 2013 interview with Andy Lewis explains what happened after Klute, and also includes some extended comments on the Klute screenplay:

Thank you for posting that interview.

I found it both a fascinating reflection on the screenwriting process and the movie-making culture of that time.

A few things that stuck out to me.

Brothers on opposite sides of the country ( obviously pre-email )and having a significant age difference, producing a story about such a memorably, striking 70's female cinematic figure. Both having virtually no input into the production of the film and not even being invited to the premiere. The original script having a bigger focus on the Klute character.

And the Oscar night, Chaplain-involved wheelchair fiasco made for a rather humorous coda.
