I've never heard this term anywhere but in Bree's angry remarks to Klute.
What, exactly, does a man who is a "button freak" do to achieve his gratification?

I've often wondered about that myself. I mean, I've heard of a lot of different things over the last thirty something years, but "button-freak" was a new one for me, too. I'm gonna go google it and see what I come up with. If it's anything interesting, I'll let you know. :)

sharegood question! my immediate thought was drugs, maybe peyote buttons. i always remember in the anonymous diary, "go ask alice",(which came out in the early 70's, i think?) they play a game & say, "button, button, who's got the button?" & that's the person(s) in the group who got the button/drug put in their drink.

You made me curious. If you Goggle 'Button Fetish' you get a whole world of navel fetish sites. I suppose you would find sub-categories and sub-sub-categories of that too such as gay navel fetishists and it all gets very depressing.
shareOK, all these years later, I'll take a shot at this. I think "button freak" does indeed refer to old-fashioned ladies undergarments that featured lots of buttons to unbutton. Sort of like asking someone if they liked fishnet stockings.
