budget: 25 million?????

Really? 25 million for a movie like this in 1971 isn´t that a lot. 25 million back then is what 100 million in today´s money. A movie like this costing 100 million is pretty unlikely or what

It says its an estimate, and I think a wildly inaccurate one. Wikipedia says the budget is $8m but doesn't give a source, but seems a bit more realistic - about $30m in today's money. IMDB has the rentals revenue down as $8m, so I'm wondering if they have got the amounts the wrong way around.

Especially since Star Wars was made in 77 for about 10 million.

The budget is now listed as 2.5 million, not 25, so I am guessing that was a typo.

$2.5 million for this film in 1971 would be realistic.

Even that seems a bit high, but I think Jane Fonda was a pretty sought after actress at that time, so I am guessing she wasn't cheap, unlike her character.

And Donald Sutherland was just coming off of MASH the year before, which had made an astounding amount of money, so I'm betting his payday had just risen substantially, as well.

Yeah Fonda was just coming off an oscar nom and Sutherland a smash hit with MASH. Neither of them would have been cheap, and there was quite a bit of location filming too in New York.
