I think the OP was correct, and in fact that was one of the things I could not help noticing while watching the film. Frank was first seen riding with a dozen people or so. Thus based on the number of his team seen being shot or killed, there should have been almost no one left after the second fight. Yet somehow he seemed to have "replacements" so that until the end, he always had some ten people riding with him. Either that or the dead had come back as zombies.
share22 + Calder, that's from his gang. I counted that much when I watched the movie for the second time. 3 are shot at the start (one dies later, Stringer), 7 in the water, one is stabbed, then Doc dies, 6 in the Mexican town and 4 at the river.
