Who was the narrator?

Anyone know the name of the narrator...first part of the film?

It's the screenwriter, Paddy Chayefsky, himself. It was supposed to be just temporary until they could find the right voice-over actor to do it. But after hearing Paddy's narration, the director & studio executives agreed it was perfect and decided to keep it. (my source is the bio: 'Mad As Hell' by Shaun Considine)

The credits say it's Paddy Chayefsky, but it sure sounds like Stephen Elliott (the bald actor who played Dr. Sundstrom, the head of the hospital, the guy who capitulates to the Negroes toward the end of the film, before re-considering and going back in w/ George C. Scott where they resume their duties to the hospital and "the community").
