Is there ever going to be a DVD for this classic film? I would think that a film that won the Palm d'Or at Cannes is worthy of a DVD release; perhaps as part of the Criterion Collection. If anyone has any info, please respond

It is absolutely ridiculous that this film has not been released on dvd. Whilst i am not the greatest fan of the film itself, i certainly can appreciate what a perfect piece it is. i required it for an essay which i am doing and was unable to get it - had to buy vhs! Disgrace! Can someone give me a website or e-mail address so that i can give the people behind the dvd releases a piece of my mind!

Somebody should contact the distributor and let them know that older movies have a right to be released on DVD. This is an Academy Award nominated movie for pete's sake! Wouldn't this be a priority release?

Ebay sometimes has used VHS copies and Amazon has copies too, although it's usually $30 or higher.

shareThanks very much for that! I'd just been checking IMDB by sheer chance to see if a DVD of this film was available yet. And would you believe it, being given away free with a newspaper this very day. I've just rushed out and bought 3 copies! This is one of my all time favourite films (if you like this sort of thing); a great adaptation of a great book.
(Yes it's full screen but much better than the video version.)

If you don´t know what to do with one of those copies you´ve bought, here in Argentina there´s someone(me) eager to get a copy but doesn´t know where to find it. I would like to use it with my students this years, but no, unavailable. ok. Enjoy it!

Check out the specifications for this DVD release on their won website and see that Optimum is relaseing the cropped version of the film, not wide screen. If you have never seen the film, rent it, otherwise save your money until someone finally gets around to issuing a DVD in the original widescreen.
