Blu-Ray

This film is marked for a Blu-Ray release in September 2009 ...based on a page I read on amazon uk.

This is surprising as the DVD and VHs are notorious examples of a poor quality print to a beloved movie that is reagrded by many to be baeautiful....and then Blu-ray?

Does this mean a DVD release that's got a decent transfer is close?

Not since Bobby Fosse has there ever been a film director like him, Roberto Marshall!

Here is a link to the Amazon site with the Blu-Ray information:

It looks like the same company, Optimum that released the DVD is releasing the Blu-Ray. Until I hear more about the transfer, I would hold off on making the purchase. If they just use the same transfer of the film for the Blu-Ray, it won't be an upgrade and not worth paying the exra money.

Verily I say unto thee...a free copy of the DVD was available in the UK's "Daily Mail" newspaper today. It is in 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

I notice that the British and Irish Sunday papers feature this kind of promotion regularly. I live in New York, and the newspapers here do not give way anything like DVDs.

The bluray, which I have, is a new 16:9 transfer and excellent definition other than some noise in a couple of dark indoor scenes.
It includes interviews with Losey's wife Patricia and son Joshua who was an extra. There are also interviews with Gerry Fisher and John Heyman who produced. Gerry relates the story of how they had to spray the grass green because after it was cut down (the garden was very overgrown), only brown stubs were left...
Well worth buying.

The picture that now heads the IMDB entry is of the new Bluray cover.

I just watched the blu ray, and I must say is worth having it, if you are a fan of the movie. I bet it never looked better.

Only thing to take into account: it seems that the movie was shot in conventional 1.33 and in theaters it was presented cropped at the top and the bottom.

The Blu Ray is 1:85:1, so it presents the movie as intended, but not as it was filmed. The "zoom-in" process, as you may predict, has affected the detail somehow.

But still it shows great clarity and truer colors, and no signs of deterioration. And fine detail is enough to be satisfied.

And other issue: it's REGION B LOCKED.

All movies are to be watched as they were intended, not as they were shot, so this is not an issue. jfc

There is no "zoom-in" in the Blu-ray. The older DVD was simply an open-matte 1.33 transfer.
