Great directing, cinematography and visual beauty doesn't help when the story and music isn't top-notch...The dialog wasn't good and the music was cheesy. It was too long and everything felt formulaic. 6/10
Antiparanoia is the eerie feeling that nothing is connected to anything else
I can't agree with the OP when stating that the film is formulaic. On the contrary I think it's structure completely lacks pace, the first half is comedic in tone, the second downright depressing. There's no middle ground regarding this point. Many scenes have a very easy-going mellow pace, while other scenes are rushed. Large chunks of the story get chopped out of the film, further diminishing it's pace. For me, it's saving grace was the music, one of my favorite Morricone soundtracks.
This movie is not trying to be like Once Upon a Time in the West or "good bad ugly" so no, comparing them is completely pointless. Leone's movies are never about what the story is about, but how he told them. This one is a lot of fun.
''Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you."
The other films are great Westerns. This one is more a philosophical movie. The plot is used to present ideas, so it's not the most important part of the film.
