That was really sad when rod steiger's family died and he finds them laying there all dead, every last one of them, and it's like he had nothing left to live for. i wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be alright, but of course it wasnt.

Yeah, its sad, but he gets his revenge in the end.

when i first saw that scene, i thought he was referring to the soldiers they just killed in the previous scene. But when the camera pans back and we see all of them dead, i was completely floored.

How did the Mexican government forces find them anyways? Wouldent there have been indications of a battle around the cave? I mean the bodies were just laying there like they were poisoned but I noticed quite a few of them had bullet wounds.

They were betrayed. Same as the revolutionaries Mallory watches being shot in the rain - who are the same men, in the same order, as in the scene where Juan meets the Doctor...
