Does anyone know the absolute total footage shot before editing?
There's stories of Leone's films being about 12 hours long before they get edited down, so I was just wondering.
There's stories of Leone's films being about 12 hours long before they get edited down, so I was just wondering.The only thing like that I've heard is the innitial cut of Once Upon a Time in America running 10 hours. Leone realized this was a ridiculous running time and never intended for it to be released like that, and he cut it down to four (then the studio cut it down to two). That happens with a lot of movies. The original cut may run four to five hours, but the director has no intention of releasing it like that.
I don't know about this movie, but I'd assume that the current "directors cut" is what he originally wanted.
