Eli Wallach and George Lazenby

Originally Sergio Leone wanted Eli Wallach to play the part of Juan Miranda,Also George Lazenby was offered the part of John H Mallory but he declined.

Would this movie had been as good if Eli Wallach and George Lazenby had been in it

reply

It's hard to know if it would have been better or not, but I do think I would have preferred Eli Wallach, but I wouldn't want to replace Coburn with Lazenby. The movie is good, but part of me wishes that Wallach could have done the movie.

reply

I heard the original idea was Eli Wallach as Juan and Jason Robards as Sean and THAT I would have LOVED.

Never cared for George Lazenby as an actor personally.

reply

Jason Robbards could have done very well at it

I could see Lazenby doing well in it, I always thought he made an excellent 007

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that because to say I'm glad George Lazenby only played James Bond once would be a massive understatement.

reply

Well the only reason he only did it once was because Broccoli (the producer of the bond films) wanted a long (multi-year) personal service contract with George, that restricted all of Georges ----everything---personal and professional.

George wanted to do Bond a couple more times but also have freedom to do other films in between

Broccoli wouldn't have it, so we got stuck with all the slugs after

Lazenby said it was because he got involved in some hippie guy who convinced him that Bond wouldn't last in the 70's.

I say good riddance because I thought he was an AWFUL actor. Which is doubly a shame because his one movie is actually one of the best Bond films.

He sucks... I have no further comment or anything I just think he is an amazingly lousy actor.
