"Oh, You've Been Watching Tella-VISH-shun."
Great scene early on in Get Carter.
Carter finding Eric at the race track - in his chauffeur's suit and hat, wearing sunglasses -- and the two men exchange polite pleanstries.
Caine always peppers his remarks with "...Eric", as in:
"Doing well for yourself, then...Eric?"
"Making a living...Eric? A good pension, then..Eric?"
"Come off it...Eric."
The famous line is when he removes Eric's sunglasses --revealing the scared man behind the cool guy --and says:
"Ah, Eric, your eyes are still the same...like two pissholes in the snow."
But I LOVE the moment before then, when Eric actually talks back.
Carter remarks that in his chauffeur suit and hat, Eric looks like he could be selling martinis(in the manner of a TV commercial of the time.)
Eric replies: "Oh..you've been watching television."
Except the WAY he says the word is super-suave and hilarious: "Oh...you've been watching Tella-VISH-shun."
I have watched this entire scene many times over the years. It never fails to entertain me. Caine's measured tone . His continual use of "Eric."
And that reply about "tele-VISH-shun."
And this: it is early on in the movie, but you can tell that Carter is already seeing Eric as key to the death of Carter's brother Frank.
You wait the whole movie for Carter and Eric to have their FINAL conversation.
