share True enough. Thing is, Lazar originally tried to act as though he had forgiven Tevye for changing his mind, & letting Motel marry his daughter, instead of Lazar. Maybe he was only trying to be fake all along, & Tevye caught on to him...?

i think the chickens were fine...but Lazar was sore at Teyve over breaking their agreement for the engagement, and Teyve has a short fuse anyway. doesnt take much to get him to holler over things!

splashen, I always got the idea that Tevye was just hurling insults at Lazar when he said "diseased chickens". It's like calling someone's mother 'ugly'. Also, Tevye had been drinking & he may have been quite tipsy at that point.
