Why did Tevye yell at Golde?

At the end when they were packing, why did he yell at her? This part I never understood.

"Did you think that I would harm her?"-The Phantom

He was still pretending he was so irate with Chava he didn't want her to know where the family was going.

The yelling was nothing new--they yelled at each other throughout the film. Here Tevye was acting mad that she told Chava where they were headed.

i got the impression it was more of a pride thing - that the villagers who were passing by would know that their family was reduced to having to be taken in by family, rather than being able to stand on their own two feet in America.

Well, I think you are the closest one to the truth here. But I don't think that's it.

I think that was his *pretext* for yelling at her. He used the pretext to cover for the fact that he was really yelling because he was just so upset at the whole Chava thing and needed to vent his frustrations. So he took it out on Golde. And she seems to understand because she doesn't fight with him, she just let's it go.
