Obviously this film would not be forgotten if there hadn't been some sort of pressure (perhaps in the form of folding greenbacks) to keep it off the shelf. I saw the film in my childhood several times; it was very good, well made, funny, sexy (in parts), and starred Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Bob and Ray, Jean Stapleton, and Vincent Gardenia. I never remember seeing it on network TV, and it is only now surfacing on DvD.
It's not conspiracy theory to speculate on the throwweight of corporate cartels.
Yawn, more tinfoil hat *beep* from people who don't know anything about business, based on the plotline of the movie in question.
How's this for a reason; maybe the film isn't out on DVD is because it's utterly dated! Compare this movie with Thank You For Smoking, and the acting, writing, directing, etc., and then tell me that this film should be on DVD. Or maybe realize that there has to be demand for something before there's supply for something. Maybe also there's a question of legal rights regarding the movie, and those have to be ironed out before the movie is released on DVD? All of those things should be thought through, but they aren't, and so, we hear *beep* speculation about 'secret cabals' or some other nonsensical theory.
Please, try keeping in mind something very true, and very sensible; If you're going to talk *beep* at least get your facts right.
Sadly, no, I've not seen it, but that doesn't mean that I don't want it on DVD, it's just that I don't want to hear *beep* conspiracy theory nonsense about how 'secret cabals' are responsible for it not being on DVD-as a joke or as a truism. It just isn't, and instead of bitching about it, steps should be taken by those who want to see it on DVD-and those steps involve each fan writing to 20th Century Fox Home Video (snail mail, not e-mail!) and asking that it be put on DVD. Not posting *beep* on IMDB about why it isn't.
One thing I've never understood is the petition has 100% of the population signed.
Obviously babies and little children legally wouldn't be allowed to sign the petition (unless the parents put the names down), and obviously they are too young smoke anyway.
I never smoked-legal or otherwise. Admittedly, the closest I ever got was sucking on Dad's pipes when I was four or five years. I remember the tobacco residue burning my mouth. That put a stop to any inclination to light up.
